A SPACE FOR TELLING TRUE STORIES.

What is Your Superpower?

by | Sep 10, 2012 | Blog | 15 comments

Today’s Blog Post is in honor of my dear friend Andrea Scher, proprietor of Superhero Life – which debuts its brand new website TODAY! Not only is the site one of the most beautifully designed websites I’ve seen in a long time – but Andrea’s super creative juju is all over it.

Andrea Scher is my go-to girl when I need someone to help me turn my good ideas into gold. She’s the kind of creative thinker who’ll listen to my musings, cock her head and say, “What if…” or, “I like that” – and “how about if you…” She brings it, she adds that special, spicy, secret sauce to whatever I’ve got going on. Time and time again she has seen something in me or in my work that I hadn’t seen. She’s a big part of the reason that I’m where I am in my career as a teacher of creative work – the kind of smart, creative and compassionate friend that is invaluable to me along the path.
Please check out Andrea’s rockin Superhero Life site and all of the amazing classes and FREE goodies that she makes available to you. If you’re a creative person and want to deepen your relationship with your artful expression, knowing Andrea and the community of people she gathers at Superhero Life is pure gold in your pocket.
In honor of her site launch, Andrea asked a few friends what our super powers were.
I used to say that I was the kind of person who, if you gave them a shovel, they would dig. I’m a digger. I know how to work, I know how to lean in and muscle up – even if that means spending night after night with a kid in Children’s Hospital or sitting on my knees for an hour with a kid’s head on my shoulder as they try to urinate on the toilet. I’m a dog soldier; devoted, strong, faithful. I bring this to my kids, my friends and to my students. If my phone rings at 3 a.m. and there’s a kid on the other end, I am up and dressed and out the door in 2 minutes.I like to wear boots, my favorite part of my body are my shoulders. I’m attracted to strong women and solid men. I’m drawn to people from the Midwest, especially Chicago because of their blue collar, steel cold winters and those awesome Mid Western values. I like people that look you in the eye and don’t look away. They make me stand up taller and dig deeper.
I come from people who stick their hands in pots of stew and mix the meat and the sauce with their human claws. My Mother likes to use the word “fanny.” When she gets a bee sting, she pees on herself. She broke her nose three times, twice playing baseball. She also makes a mean martini. She’s my role model.
And that’s just a slice. I haven’t even told you about staying up all night as a kid waiting for the burglars to rob our house in L.A. I was ready. They never came.
What’s your super power? If you don’t know, but you want to find out, get to know Andrea Scher at Superhero Life and then get back to me.
Vrooom!
Laurie

I LOVE your superpower! You are a DIGGER! You’re also solid as the earth you’re digging. 🙂

I’m so glad that Andrea is encouraging us all to think about what our unique superpowers are. You’ll find your name is key to my own superpower story, Ms. Laurie. Cuz not only are you a digger, but you are a see-er, too. You saw my superpower before I even knew it was there. I’m grateful to you all over again! xo
